After the storms of August, the blue sun-shiny September days were a blessed relief. This is low season here in Bocas, but I have no idea why: the weather is incredible, the prices are low, the chitras aren’t too crazy… it seems like the best time of the year to visit.

In a way I feel like I’m finally getting to grips with the place. For instance, here’s a coconut I split in half with a machete with just one blow. Felt like I was Bear Grylls or something, only better and not staying in a Travelodge.
I took time out to visit Bocas, always on the look out for growlers…
And terror…
But it never stays sunny for long in Bocas. Here’s me on a wet Thursday afternoon totally soaked to the skin. I had gone to Bocas Town to pick up a couple of CSers but they changed their minds at the last minute.
I drove my boat back from Bocas in the pouring rain, swearing and cursing the whole way. And it cost me $25 in fuel. Yeah, I changed my listing after that, making it super-difficult to request to surf my couch unless you actually bother to read up about the place before you arrive.
One of the ideas I had in my head was that I would write while I was on the island. Not only do I have to get the book about The Odyssey Expedition written, I have over 50 other writing projects on the go in one form or another – books, movie scripts, pitch documents etc.
Unfortunately on the trip back from Bocas to pick up the bastard CouchSurfers who didn’t even turn up my external keyboard (the FGHJ keys don’t work on my laptop) got wet and refused to ever work again so I elected to relieve my frustration by going HULK SMASH WOOHAHAHAHAHA.
But yeah, no writing for a bit I guess.
Happily I did get some nice CSers in September, ones that actually bothered to turn up! Silvia from Madrid and her bf stayed for one night…
Then I had the pleasure of hosting the lovely Heather from the UK (a friend of a friend).
Towards the end of the month I hosted Marta and Leo from Argentina and Spain. They were not only great cooks…
They also seemed to have the ability to attract dolphins… on our trip to Dolphin Bay we saw more of our delphine buddies in a hour than I had seen since I got here in May.

It was a magical experience and a great way to round off the month, which, looking back, was all rather relaxing compared with what October, November and December had in store…
